The Mesa College women's volleyball team advanced to the third round of the 3C2A State Championships after defeating San Bernardino Valley College, 3–1.
Despite trailing 6–14 early in the first set, and later falling behind 19–23, the Olympians rallied to take the opener, 25–23.
"The start of the match was less than ideal," said head coach Bobbie Jo Stall-Vest. "We had a lot of uncharacteristic errors, but the way we fought back to win that set showed some promising resolve."
The next three sets were tightly contested. San Bernardino evened the match at 1–1 after a thrilling second set and continued to challenge Mesa throughout, frequently countering the Olympians' attack. Mesa's coaching staff made several well-timed timeouts to halt Wolverine momentum. Ultimately, the Olympians proved too strong, securing the third set 25–20 and closing out the match with another 25–20 victory.
Mia Lundberg led Mesa with 16 kills and 12 digs. Bella Town added 12 kills on 29 total attacks, while Maddie Connelly contributed 10 kills. Ruby Ennis was outstanding with 34 assists and two service aces.
"Lots of credit to the team on the other side of the net," Stall-Vest added. "They were a tough test for us, and they showed us the importance of better focus, more consistent play, and being fully prepared for Miramar College."
The Olympians will host the Miramar College Jets on Saturday, November 29, at 5:00 p.m. Tickets will be available for purchase at the door (cash only). The game will also be streamed on Hudl.
