Men's Water Polo Stays Perfect in Conference

Every new season brings a fresh sense of hope, and this year the San Diego Mesa men’s water polo team has turned that hope into results. After a complete turnaround, the Olympians now sit atop the conference with a perfect 5-0 record.

Last season, Mesa finished 9-12 overall and 3-2 in conference play, placing third behind Grossmont and Palomar. This year’s squad has flipped the script, holding a 20-8 overall record.

The Olympians are peaking at the right time. They’re on a five-game win streak, and in their last eight contests, the defense hasn’t allowed any team to score more than eight goals.

Most recent, the team has wins over Southwestern College (18–8), Palomar College (16–8), Saddleback College (11–7), and a 13–7 victory over El Camino earlier today.

Freshman Kyle Fox leads the conference in scoring with 88 goals, followed by Santiago Gonzalez in third with 72.

In assists, freshman Trevor Kula and sophomore Barrett Satre are among the best, with 65 and 64.

On defense, Gonzalez also leads the conference with 59 steals, while Kula sits second with 49.

In goal, Riser Lundberg ranks third in saves (177), second in save percentage (44.8%), and first in total wins (15).

With two regular-season games left at the Día de Los Metros Tournament, the Olympians are playing with confidence. The Conference Championships are set for November 7 at Southwestern College, followed by the SoCal Regionals on November 13, and the 3C2A State Championships soon after.
