The men's volleyball team is beginning to find its rhythm, hoping to build momentum after an impressive 3-1 (17–25, 27–25, 26–24). win over Golden West College on Friday.
Golden West, previously ranked No. 2 in the state, entered the match with an 18–1 record before the Olympians handed them their second loss of the season. Their only prior defeat came at home against Orange Coast College, also by a 3–1 margin.
6'9 middle blocker Ryan Ennos delivered once again, recording 21 kills on 38 attempts and finishing with 22.5 points. Sophomore setter Slater Beacham contributed 42 assists, 12 digs, and 7 points, while freshman outside hitter Sonnyboy Matavao continued to make a strong impact with 13 points, including 9 kills on 27 attempts, along with 2 service aces and 5 digs.
March was a roller coaster for the team, beginning with a 0-3 loss to this same Golden West College. They then dropped matches against San Diego Miramar 2–3 and Grossmont College 2–3, and then were swept 0-3 by Orange Coast College. The team did have wins against Santiago Canyon College, Palomar College, and Irvine Valley College by identical 3–1 scores, along with the most recent 3–1 win over Golden West.
Despite a slower start to the season, the Olympians are proving to be as dangerous as any team in the state. The coaching staff continues to work and prepping the squad for a possible playoff run.
The team returns home on Wednesday, April 1, to host Santiago Canyon College. The two teams met earlier this year at Orange, California, where the Olympians came away with a 3–1 victory.
First serve is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
