The 2026 3C2A Track and Field season once again ended in exciting fashion for the San Diego Mesa College Olympians, who finished second in the state for the second consecutive year. The Olympians totaled 88 points behind Mt. San Antonio College, which captured the state championship with 144 points. Defending state champion Riverside City College rounded out the top three with 61 points.
The biggest difference makers of the meet came late in the afternoon when Mt. SAC pulled away from the results of the field events, including a 1-2-3 finish in the men’s triple jump. While the Mounties kept adding points in the field, Mesa continued to answer in the sprints, hurdles, and relay events.
Despite finishing second once again, Mesa’s performances throughout the season and at the state meet gave the program plenty to celebrate.
Jayden Bailey captured the state title in the 110-meter hurdles after running a state-leading 14.17. He was immediately followed by teammate Evan Munoz, who crossed the line in 14.36 to complete a strong 1-2 finish for the Olympians.
Shemarion Unden, who entered the meet as the state leader in the 400 meters, took control in the final stretch to win the event in 47.64.
Mesa’s men’s 4x100 relay team of Matthew Robertson, Ryan Mann, Austin Snook, and Elliot Getz continued its outstanding season by posting another state-leading mark of 40.09 while also setting a new school record.
Not to be overlooked, the men’s 4x400 relay team of Jaylon Graves, Ryan Mann, Shamarion Unden, and Diego Pereyra delivered one of the most exciting races of the meet. The Olympians edged out Riverside City College, finishing in 3:13.16 ahead of Riverside’s 3:13.87.
