The Annual Arnie Robinson Invitational, held at San Diego Mesa College, is a two-day event honoring the legendary Olympic gold medalist who began his collegiate career at Mesa before transferring to San Diego State University.

An icon in the track and field world, Robinson graduated from Morse High School and claimed the 1970 NCAA Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Championship in the long jump. He won the Olympic Trials twice in the long jump, a bronze medal at the 1972 Olympic Games, and went on to a gold medal in 1976. Robinson holds seven national long jump titles, six outdoors, and was a leader outside of competition. He also invested his time and money into youth track and field athletes in San Diego.

This year’s invitational featured standout performances from the relays, jumps, and middle-distance events. 

 

On the men’s side, the 4x100m relay team (Ryan Mann, Matthew Robertson, Terrick Fisher, Austin Snook) opened with a 40.69, ranking #2 in the state and #5 all-time. The 4x400m relay team (David Diaz, Diego Pereyra, Harrison Caulfield, Nolan Jones) finished the meet with a of 3:11.97, earning the #1 time in the state and #5 all-time.

Juleus Lewis also had an incredible day in the long jump, jumping 7.21m (23'7.75"), a State A mark and the best jump in the state this season. Aundrey Calvert with a personal best in the 800m, winning a tight race with a 1:56.55. Ryan Mann (10.36 in the 100m) and Jaidyn Bailey (14.32 in the 110m hurdles) each with a win in their events.
