San Diego Mesa College women’s water polo is kicking off a new era under head coach Larry Sanders, who is excited to finally lead the program into a full season.
The Olympians opened the season with two competitive matchups, falling to Sierra College 17–8 and Mt. San Antonio College 12–10. Despite the early losses, the team has shown promise and plenty of fight. Freshman attacker Kylie Sagastume (Clairemont High School) leads the squad in goals, while freshman goalie Isabella Hartley (Mar Vista High School) has anchored the defense with standout saves.
With a roster full of young talent, Sanders sees steady growth early in the season. “We’re making progress, learning to play together, and taking it one game at a time,” he said.
After overcoming roster challenges last season, the program continues to build momentum. Sanders encourages more athletes to join. “We’re always looking for people who want to be part of something bigger than themselves,” he said.
