Bella Town Named State Women's Volleyball Players of the Week

San Diego Mesa opposite Bella Town, Fresno City outside hitter/middle blocker Jayla Iversen, LA Mission OH Tawnie Ohrt and Irvine Valley OH Alya Mersin all received recognition as the CCCWVCA State Players of the Week #12.

Town, a 5-foot-11 sophomore from Carlsbad High, hit a combined .606 in recording 23 kills in a pair of Mesa victories. She landed 12 kills in just 15 swings with three blocks in a sweep over Southwestern, then totaled 11 kills and five blocks in another Olympians' sweep over San Diego City.

Iversen, a 5-11 sophomore from Exeter Union HS, totaled 23 kills, 16 digs and three aces in helping Fresno to sweeps over Clovis and Lemoore. She totaled 14 kills v. Clovis.

Like Town for Mesa and Iversen for Fresno, Ohrt helped her team as well to the 3C2A State Tournament last year as freshmen. In her sophomore season, the 5-7 Ohrt has excelled with her experience. Last week, she pounded 16 kills and served three aces in a big Western State Conference North Division showdown win over Moorpark. She added 10 kills and five aces in a sweep of LA Pierce. Ohrt attended Burroughs High in Burbank.

Mersin, a 5-11 sophomore from University High in Irvine, was efficient in a pair of IVC sweeps over Cypress and Santa Ana. She amassed 27 kills and 20 digs. Against SAC, she was especially outstanding with 13 kills (hit .500), 11 digs, four blocks and two aces.
