With a 7–3 start to the season, including a 4–2 record in February, the Olympian softball team has shown it has what it takes to make a deep playoff run.
Ranked #2 last week in Southern California (RPI), the coaching staff is pleased with how the team is competing. Head coach Jaclyn Guidi says, ‘we are playing as a team, and everyone supports each other, no matter what their role on the team is, they are doing their best.’
Although the team dropped their last two games to Orange Coast College, Guidi sees those losses as valuable learning opportunities.
“We can’t worry about the things we can’t control,” Guidi said. “We need to focus on things we can control and how we react to them.”
Freshman Alexis Serrano, out of Mater Dei High School, has made an immediate impact. Playing both outfield and first base, Serrano is batting .286 with one home run and seven RBIs.
With 10 games in the books, this team is proving they can compete with anyone. Still, Guidi believes the team must take another step mentally and leave everything on the field.
The Olympians return to action Thursday, Feb. 19, when they host Imperial Valley College. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
