San Diego Mesa College's men's volleyball team has clinched their second consecutive conference title, this year, in the newly named Southern Region - Pacific conference.

The Olympians concluded the season with a 19-3 overall record and an 11-3 conference record. The team will host Long Beach City College on Friday, April 18 at San Diego Mesa College, in the SoCal Regional Playoffs at 6:00 p.m.

Head Coach David Proffitt, reflecting on last season's narrow miss of the state title, sees many similarities  between the two teams. However, he points out that the current squad has better chemistry and stronger on the serve and offensively as a whole.

Another key element in this year's success, according to Proffitt, has been the outstanding play of sophomore setter Logan Shepard. The 6'5" Shepard has been a consistent force for the Olympians throughout the season. "We have a tremendous group of guys, and they all deserve recognition," Proffitt explained. "But one player who might be overlooked amidst our powerful attack is our setter, Logan Shepard. He has been a constant force for us this year. Logan is always looking to improve our offense and always willing to do extra film work with his coaches.

The team is playing solid volleyball down the stretch, which includes a five-game winning streak and having only dropped one-set in April. This team has the ability to reach the finish line that eluded them last season. However, the team must focus on the task at hand, which is Long Beach City College. “I know this is cliche, but I really feel like we stick to the “one match at a time" mentality,” Proffitt adds.  “We can only beat the team we are currently playing and that is what we should be preparing for.”
