San Diego Mesa College is proud to annouce that three members of the Women's Soccer team has been named "Scholar Athlete" by the California Community College Soccer Coaches Association (CCCSCA.) This is the inaugural season for this award and all of the athletes on the list have completed at least 24 semester or 36 quarter units and boast a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher. The list is compiled of 56 women and of those, five were from colleges in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference South. San Diego Mesa Women's Soccer players held three of those five spots with the other two coming from San Diego City.
For Mesa, sophomore starters Shannon Smith and Taylor Pompa-Hogan both excelled academically earning a perfect 4.0 GPA while Freshman Melissa Jones earned a 3.36 GPA. Sophomore duo Smith and Pompa-Hogan weren't just leaders in the classroom but were leaders on the field, serving as Team Captains for the 2014 season.
