April 11, 2014 - The Olympians weren't just successful on the field during the 2013 season, they were are successful in the classroom as clearly demonstrated by the award given to four Olympians by the CCCSCA (California Community College Soccer Coaches Association.) The CCCSCA announced their selections for the 2013 list of scholar-athletes. This is the inaugural season for the award which will become an annual list for community college women's and men's soccer teams within the state of California. In order to qualify for this prestigious award, all student-athletes must have completed at least 24 units and maintained a 3.3 GPA or higher.
The women's soccer team had four of their own who were honored by the CCCSCA including the 2013 PCAC Defender of the Year Elisa Brooks who completed 16 units in the Fall semester with a 3.81 GPA. Joining Brooks were fellow sophomore Megan Belchamber with a 3.75 GPA in 16 units and Karina Alvarez-Caledron and freshman teammate Karina Alvarez-Caledron completed 16 units and achieved a 3.41 GPA for the Fall semester. Leading the team in GPA was freshman, Shannon Smith who completed 20 units during her season of competition and maintained a 4.0 GPA.
