The Lady Olympians earned the Community Service Award for the third consecutive year and fifth time in seven years. Mesa has raised nearly $2,500 during that time in addition to raising awareness for Breast Cancer research. The fundraising and awareness are a collaborative effort done with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association, the California Community College Women's Basketball Coaches Association, and the American Cancer Society. Within California alone during this seven year span, the community colleges have raised nearly $250,000. "We want to continue to be a part of this fight to end breast cancer," said Olympian Head Coach, Michael Hootner. "It's not simply about raising money for research, it's important that all men and women become more aware of how we can do more individually and collectively to try and end this awful disease," concluded Coach Hootner.
