San Bernardino's Hernandez, Cuyamaca's Clark honored.
San Bernardino Valley College's Hector Hernandez (Track & Field) and Cuyamaca's Colton Clark (Track & Field) have been honored by the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference as Men's Athletes of the Week for May 9-14.
Hernandez, the Wolverines' freshman track & field eligibility wise from Canyon Springs High School in Moreno Valley, won the 1500 meters in 3:57.55 in the Southern California Community College finals at Cerritos College's Falcon Stadium.
Hernandez also placed fourth in the 800 meters.
Clark, a freshman out of Poway High School who played football last fall for Grossmont College, got out 48.46 meters (158 feet, 11.87 inches) to win the discus at the Southern Cal finals.
Clark also finished third in the shot put.
Honorable mention was awarded to track & field athletes Cooper Bibbs and Qwayjon Walker, both from San Diego Mesa, and Grossmont baseball pitcher Tim Holdgrafer.
Bibbs, a freshman out of Oceanside High School, won the 100 meters in 10.96 and the 200 meters with a 21.28 time at the Southern Cal finals.
Walker, a sophomore from Western High School in Las Vegas, got out 51.33 meters (168 feet, 4.86 inches) to place first in the javelin in the SoCal meet. He also took seventh in the long jump and anchored Mesa's 4x100 relay team that finished second to Mt. SAC.
Holdgrafer, a redshirt freshman right-handed pitcher from La Jolla High School and a bounce-back transfer from St. Mary's College of California, ran his win-loss record to 9-0 with a 2.56 ERA as he threw a complete-game eight-hitter, defeating Cypress 6-3 as the Griffins swept the Chargers 2 games to 0 in the teams' best-of-3 Super Regional series. Holdgrafer and his Grossmont teammates move on to one of two Southern California sectional games this weekends, hosting Long Beach City College with a trip to the CCCAA State Championship Final Four the following weekend in Fresno on the line.
