May 9, 2014 - Mesa's Evan Taylor has made a name for himself in his senior year at Viterbo University. The former Olympian recently won the coveted, "Pitcher of Year" title from the Midwest Collegiate Conference following his team's conference championship in regular play and in the MCC Championship tournament. Taylor was also named to the MCC All Conference First Team which is his second appearance on the MCC All Conference Team; last season he was an Honorable Mention. Currently, Taylor is 10-1 on the year as a starting pitcher for the V-Hawks which is a new school record and the eighth highest in the NAIA for the 2014 season. Taylor has had a successful season on the hill delivering 56 strikeouts and maintaining a low 1.65 ERA in 86.2 innings of work. According to Viterbo's head coach, Chad Miller, "What makes him so special as a player is that he has the ability to elevate the entire team's level of confidence because they know they can count on him to be prepared to compete at a high level on an incredibly consistent basis." As a sophomore, Taylor was an integral part of the Olympians 2012 team who won the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference title.
